Hi Fruitville 210 Ladies and Gentleman,

For those of you who attended our inaugural picnic at the Restoration Fellowship Church on Richardson Road yesterday, I am sure that you will agree that it was a fun filled and successful event. I don't know where to begin but initial estimates of the number of picnic attendees is over two hundred participants and visitors. Residents, many with their children, came from several different alliance neighborhoods to enjoy the food, games, music, and County-sponsored attractions. We consumed 200 hamburgers and 120 hot dogs as well as other snacks and treats. Twelve cakes were given away to lucky winners who participated in our "cake walk." The local children enjoyed games and prizes. Many neighbors brought food items for the All Faith Food Bank. I spied quite of few neighbors having a massage by a local therapist--the setting next to the lake was definitely relaxing. The "Jazz Box" band with Booker High School VPA musicians, was outstanding to say the least. The tunes that they played, quite professionally, gave our picnic an ethereal, relaxing atmosphere. Folks seemed engaged in friendly conversation throughout the day.

We were visited by Sarasota County Commissioners Paul Mercier, Shannon Staub, and Joe Barbetta. I was told that usually one commissioner shows up for an event like ours and we had three!! Captain Jeff Bell, candidate for County Sheriff, was seen with his wife mingling with the crowd and enjoying the eats. Two Sarasota County fire fighters driving Fire Engine No.7 from the 17th Street Fire Station, Sheriff's canine "Titan" and his K-9 handler, and Sheriff's equine "Liberty" with his mounted handler all visited and gave us demos about what they do. The SWAT team helicopter made a dramatic landing and take off. This state-of-the-art aircraft stayed for an hour and was a definite highlight. It's nice to know that Sarasota County has such professional people services available to us.

Next, the Sarasota County Neighborhood Services, who helped sponsor our local event, provided all of the tents and logistical support--popcorn machine, snowcone maker, clip boards, survey questionnaires, easels with map visuals of our neighborhoods, stakes and crime scene tape, etc. The surveys that were gathered

by Fruitville 210 and GOODWILL volunteers will help us to determine what we need to do in the future to improve our quality of our life within the alliance area. I feel that we can truly begin to build a true "sense

of community" within the Fruitville 210 Alliance area by putting those neighborhood desires into action. Thanks to those of you who took the time to fill out the survey form.

In closing, I'd like to make the some important remarks. The Fruitville 210 Community Alliance is a real "grassroots" organization comprised of local neighbors dedicated to improving our community. As you know, our hope is to work with our County elected officials and private developers to find solutions to the challenges that we will face in the future. Only by communicating and working together will we be able to accomplish our goals. We hope to make our picnic an annual event and that it gets even better. Please spread the word to fellow neighbors about who we are and what we do. All we have to sacrifice to accomplish our mission to improve our local community is a little time. I encourage everyone to make the monthly meetings. The meeting schedule for next year will be up on the website, www.fruitville210.org, soon. I look forward to working with my fellow alliance residents on neighborhood improvements in 2008. Thanks again and Happy Holidays.
